Food for 200 people every Sunday morning
We started in Madrid on the 19th of April 2009, with the purpose to cover the decreasing services on Sundays, due to the closure of public soup kitchens. The demand is high. The gouvernmental organization “Samur Social” counted over 700 individuals that are homeless in Madrid. Although there is a great amount of people that is not reflected in the numbers and an even bigger one that due to the effects of the economical crisis is at risk of socail exclusion. We try to reach as many people as possible.
We currently work in collaboration with the association of DUAL and LAKOMA, who offered us their facilities, located in Calle Madrazo, at the heart of Madrid, and who furthermore, help us to facilitate more and better information and attention to the people attending.
We distribute 200 bags of food, each containing one large baguette sandwich, either with serrano ham or cheese, both with freshlysliced tomato, fruit and coffee. The help we provide is listed in the guidebook “Where to eat, sleep and wash up in Madrid” that the City Council prepares anually for people in need.
Besides, we financially support and send medicines and clinical equipment, purchased from Farmamundi, to the medical center in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. We also collaborate with the DIF (Comprehensive Development Service of the Family) of San Miguel de Allende in Mexico in the maintenance and development of the Projects at Casa Esperanza.
